The 3-Minute Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Review
Big screen, big performance
By Zach Riley | September 18, 2017
Features & Design: 4.5/5 ● Performance: 4.5/5 ● Value: 4/5
With a large screen, top-tier performance, and a streamlined operating system, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 gives you a nice looking, high-end Android experience.
Despite the many positives of this phone, you may have difficulty getting your hands on one. Expandable storage often comes standard with Android phones, so the absence of this feature and an expensive price tag are some major drawbacks of an otherwise stellar smartphone.
Is it for you?
The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is a great option for those looking for a phone with a big screen that still gives you fantastic performance and long battery life. The Mi Note 2 is a breeze to use and is a solid choice for those who need reliable performance from their phone.
“Customers who are willing to drop some cash on a brand that isn’t as well recognized may be pleasantly surprised by the performance and features of this Xiaomi flagship phone.”
Meet the Xiaomi Mi Note 2
Chinese-based Xiaomi has been trying its best to bring its high-quality mobile phones to Western customers. While they’ve had limited success so far, they continue to produce high-quality devices that compete with flagship phones from more globally established brands. It’s only a matter of time before a Chinese phone takes the world by storm. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2, with its impressive performance and beautiful aesthetics, may have a chance to do just that.
What we like
We like quite a lot about the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. The screen displays vibrant colours that compete with those found on the luxury offerings from more international brands. The phone’s performance is up there with the best of them due to its powerful hardware. The battery is one of the biggest on the market which ensures that the phone will last all day, even with some pretty serious use.
The MIUI 8 operating system is one of the more polished versions of the Android operating system. You’ll probably be pleased with its smooth navigation and responsiveness.
What we don’t like
There’s not too much wrong with this phone. The main issue is actually getting your hands on one, as there is (currently) limited international availability. This may change as we move further away from the launch date, but a phone isn’t really useful if you can’t actually buy it! Expandable storage used to be standard on Android phones, but it seems like more and more phones are ditching the feature (the Mi Note 2 included), which is unfortunate.
Lastly, the price of the phone is a little higher than we expected. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2’s price puts itself into the competitive market of high-end, luxury phones. While it has a nice collection of features, it will likely struggle when forced to compete with phones from Apple and Samsung.
Should you buy it?
Overall, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is an interesting new entry into the luxury smartphone scene. Customers who are willing to drop some cash on a brand that isn’t as well recognized may be pleasantly surprised by the performance and features of this Xiaomi flagship phone. The combination of a superior display, clean operating system, and great performance make for a luxury smartphone that can compete with the best of them.
