- High Battery Life
Though Xiaomi is a little known electronics brand outside of China—their presence is definitely growing in the western smartphone market. The Mi band release date was in July 2014, amid the fast changing and growing fitness tracker market, the Mi Band stood out as a uniquely inexpensive and interesting alternative to the more expensive fitness tracker forerunners like those released by Fitbit or Polar. Currently, the Mi Band only works with android 4.4 supported devices (for the Mi Band app). This is a downfall for Apple users, but support for iOS is likely coming in the future.
How accurate is it ?
The accuracy of the Mi Band varies from feature to feature. The Footstep tracker of the Mi Band is fairly accurate—the band alerts you to the progression towards your footstep goals by lighting up and eventually vibrating. The footstep tracker across most fitness trackers can be fairly varied and occasionally inaccurate however, and the Mi Band is no exception. The Sleep tracker/Alarm feature is fairly accurate for what it is—you an set your preferred wakeup time, and the Mi Band will wake you up at any point before this time if it determines its best (according to sleep cycles). The Mi Band is screen-less, and so tracking your data from day to day is limited to the Mi Band App only—this does limit the real-time accuracy when trying to track your fitness goals.
How long does it take to charge it ?
The Mi-Band is charged via USB cable that attaches to the dongle—plugged in to a wall socket or a computer. Charging takes approximately 2-3 hours.
How long does its battery last ?
You can expect to not have to charge the Mi Band for up to an entire month of use.
Is it waterproof ?
The Mi Band is not waterproof—so don’t shower or go swimming with it. It is however, water resistant; so if it rains or you sweat on it—don’t worry about it. Considering the low price of this tracker, having water-resistance alone is a welcome feature.
Conclusion: Should I buy it ?
If you are on the hunt for a truly budget activity tracker—the Xiaomi Mi Band is an excellent deal. While on the low end of the swollen fitness tracker market, the Mi Band has several features you would come to expect from more expensive gadgets. The most standout feature is the Xiaomi mi band’s price—retailing at around the $22 (US) dollar mark, you will likely not find a cheaper fitness tracker with as many features as the Mi Band. Including a nice foot-step tracker, alarm clock, and an extraordinary battery life. For those looking for more functionality and additional features—like workout tracking, calorie counting and day-to-day statistics, you might want to keep searching through the range of fitness trackers on offer, and be prepared to spend more.
