Xiaomi’s Clever Notch Eliminator
The Xiaomi Mi 7T Pro was released in August this year as Xiaomi’s flagship device, with its predecessors being the Xiaomi Mi 9 and Xiaomi Mi 9T. This phone is also known as the Redmi K20 Pro in other markets.
The Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro comes in three color choices, Carbon Black, Flame Red, and Glacier Blue. The design of the phone is smooth with rounded edges and a bezzle-less display opting rather for a 20MP pop-up selfie camera. The body is made from an aluminum frame with a gorilla glass front and back. The display is a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED with a high nitrate to give you optimum screen brightness.
The hardware on this device is astounding with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with 6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB storage but it’s worthwhile to note that only the 256GB storage option comes with 8GB RAM. On the soft where front this device runs on Android 9.0 Pie and has the MIUI 10 overlay.
Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 4/5 ● Battery Life 4/5
The best part about this phone is the fact that it has no bezzle opting for a pop-up selfie camera that has some interesting design features such as the emergency drop detection, and downward pressure detection all this has been done to give you a fully immersive display.
Xiaomi has not let us down in the camera department of this phone as we see a line-up of triple rear cameras the main one being the AI Sony 48MP ultra-high-resolution wide camera with an 8MP telephoto and 13MP ultra-wide.
There are some minor issues with this device, the main ones being the lack of IP rating leaving your device subjectable to dust and water damage.
Then some may feel the choice to not have a microSD slot a little troublesome as it limits your storage options as the onboard 64GB/128BG or 256GB options may not be enough.
Is it for you?
It is hard to imagine many people that wouldn’t fall in love with the design of this phone and its clever selfie camera mechanism. The screen size, and lack of a notch makes this a phone that is great for watching movies and videos.
What we like
The overall display is 6.39 inches and has an amazing 86% screen to body ratio, which makes this an especially effective device for consuming video content. The screen also has a built-in fingerprint reader making it super easy to use.
Let’s talk about the battery as it gives you 103h on the endurance test due to its 4000mAh battery and optimizing software. The Type C port is also a plus and comes with a standard 18W fast charge block, the device also supports fast charge up to 25W.
What we don’t like
The only real issue with this device is the storage options. As phones are moving into the era of gaming this requires a large amount of storage, as well as the day to day apps all leaves you wishing for that MicroSD slot.
Some people are not happy with the way that the camera slide mechanism works, as it leaves the device susceptible to water damage. The face unlock feature is made sluggish by this slow-moving mechanism.
Should you buy it?
If you want a phone that helps you to make the most out of your smartphone screen, then this is the phone for you. This is a well-priced phone with components that can easily stand up to other flagship devices.
