Sony Alpha A6000 Review
Sony has been around for years and is a common name amongst photographers. Having recently released the new Alpha A6000 camera, Sony is back in the game. The new Alpha A6000 is a mirror less camera that features upgraded technology and a sleek, modern design.
The Sony Alpha A6000 contains a 24-megapixel APS-C size sensor, providing clean sharp images for photographers. The camera shows off a sleek, angular design, which makes it easily distinguishable amongst several other cameras. The flat top makes dials and buttons feel a bit stiff and buried butt this may just take some getting used too. However, the well-designed grip makes up for those potential dial problems. The Alpha a600 is slightly cluttered on the top and back as far as buttons and features go, making it kind of confusing for beginners. The menus however are user-friendly and easy to read. On top of the a6000, there are several buttons: mode dial, aperture dial, shutter, power and custom function button. On the back there is yet another wheel, the directional control wheel, which is surrounded by several other buttons. What makes the camera seem so cluttered is that the buttons and dials are all similar in color to the body of the camera. Users have to hunt around for the button or dial selection they want or just memorize them.
The A6000 takes high quality pictures that are sharp, clear and well saturated. Autofocus has drastically improved since the previous generation, now with quicker hybrid phase and contrast detection. Surprisingly there is a drastic downgrade regarding the viewfinder, which now contains just a 1.4 million - dot unit. Several other features that found their way to the Alpha are the pop up flash, Wi-Fi connectivity, face recognition, scene modes and focus peaking. All of which make for high quality photos with little noise or blur. Perhaps the most unique feature of the Sony Alpha A6000 is the adjustable LCD screen. This feature gives photographers an easy way to take photographs from unique angles without straining themselves.
The Sony Alpha A6000 is also capable of recording video; this is both good and bad. As far as detail and image quality go, the Alpha is spot on. That is, until recording in low light situation, in which compression artifacts take center stage. Autofocus and zoom are both functional during recording sessions but the sound is easily picked up, causing unwanted sound in your video. Also, there is no microphone jack, leaving users in the hands of whatever microphone is installed in the camera itself. Sound quality is average because of this.
Even with all these features and functions, battery life of the Sony Alpha a6000 is of the upper hand. Tests average the camera at 420 shots before the battery dies. These shots were taken with levels at the maximum and the use of a flash so this number is likely to increase depending on the settings in use.
