Sonos has long since positioned itself as the dominant player in at-home, multi-room audio solutions, Wile long being loyal to the market of music lovers, over that of home-cinema enthusiasts. With the Sonos Playbar, Sonos decided to jump on what is a fast growing market for the soundbar in the audio sphere. The Sonos Playbar is a 9-speaker, Hi-Fi all-in-one home theatre system "soundbar" designed to fit discreetly in a living space. The Bar is designed to fit seamlessly into the Sonos wireless system—taking advantage of the wireless connectivity that gives the user access to all their music libraries across all the homes devices, like PCs, tablets and smartphones.
What is the sound quality ?
The sound quality is good for general use purposes—meaning the average person will likely be very impressed with the audio output, balance and overall quality of the Sonos Playbar. The aluminum body and wide speaker setup of the Playbar offers an excellently crisp and detailed sound output, offering a clear and enjoyable listening experience for music and movies alike. The Sonos Playbar does not have a dedicated low-range bass output—while delivery of mid-range bass is perfectly acceptable—but for some uses, the Sonos Players bass output will not do justice, whether it is bass-heavy music or a sonorous segment of a movie, the bass output of the Playbar may prove lackluster.
What are the features ?
The Playbar comes with comparatively simple connection points in its design. Including two Ethernet ports, a power socket, and instead of an HDMI port—the Sonos Playbar has an Optical audio input—though this isn’t a drawback, customer should ensure their TVs had an Optical audio output before purchase. The Sonos Playbar slim and elegant—designed to merge into the background of a living room space. Measuring just under 9cm, composed of soft fabric grille and an aluminum casing, the Sonos Playbar is discrete enough to be placed in a multitude of spaces in a home entertainment setup. There are accompanying Apps for the Soundbar available for Android or iOS that allow your smartphone to work as a remote control device. The Sonos app will need to be installed on a smartphone first in order for the Playbar to be setup. Once setup, The Sonos Playbar along with your T.V. can be controlled using a tablet or smartphone.
Conclusion: Should I buy it ?
Sonos traditional of expertise and quality in audio is definitely carried over to the Playbar. It is gorgeously designed, relatively simple to setup and provides crisp and balanced sound output that treads an equilibrium between the wants of music lovers on one hand, and home entertainment enthusiasts on the other. While the sound-bar claim to Hi-Fi level audio quality is certainly correct—the reality may not live up to the expectation of dedicated audiophiles, with its lacking dedicated bass output. While the modern soundbar system and TVs alike most commonly carry HDMI ports—Sonos’ continued tradition of using the optical input may blindside some buyers in the soundbar market
