Seagate Desktop Expansion Drive 2TB USB 3.0 Review
The Seagate Desktop Expansion Drive 2TB USB 3.0 is the device which ensures that you get to have all the memorable and important files stored, safe and sound. It is set to protect and take extra care for all the ever growing files that you have.
This particular expansion drive has the Plug and Play feature which lets you connect the drive and then let it automatically sync all the files you need. Getting it setup is not a problem as it is really efficient and ultra-fast. The great thing about this device is the fact that it is recognized by the Windows operating system which makes it capable of doing a lot of things even without the need of configuration. Through the built-in power management, the energy efficient operation is totally and unequivocally ensured. That way, you get to feel as if you are also a contributor in the “Go Green” advocacy. Technically, the transfer speeds are excellent with the use of either the USB 2.0 or the USB 3.0.
If there is something that is totally admirable about the Seagate Desktop is the fact that when you plug it, you will not even notice that it is already working due to the fact that there is no noise at all. So basically, if you get to try and use it, you will be impressed that it is as quiet as can be. The bad thing though is that the quality it tends to provide is somewhat not good enough to be used on a long-term basis. Some even say that the quality it has will only last for about 5 months or a year, if taken care properly. On the other hand, there is quite a problem about it as it can run hot if used for more than three hours. To be honest, any device used for more than what is specified for it can really have bad side effects. Nevertheless, there are still more high-end devices that even when faced with crucial and stressing conditions, are able to keep its cool. Also, when transferring a larger than usual amount of file, you will notice how it can trigger the device to get heated up. That is a case which is brought about by its poor cooling design and the lack of the fan.
Another thing to note is that this drive needs an outlet or a socket for it to work. It is not like some of the other expansion drives that can work with a USB cord. This one, unfortunately, needs to be powered up. Some people are concerned about although the device looks sturdy, it seems as if one bump or crash can utterly destroy the device. Maybe it is too fragile to keep up with those burdens. Some say that the size of this unit is actually larger than the others. Practically, some say that even if it is larger, it lacks some of the engineering that can make it a perfect expansion drive. But who knows, it may be innovated in the future.
