Samsung Galaxy Note 3 LTE N9005 32GB Review
A popular addition to Samsung's lineup, the N9005 Note 3, is definitely a noteworthy phone… pun intended. Building upon the best parts of its predecessors (the Note 1 and 2), this phone boasts many technical upgrades as well as improved user experience and interface. Thinner, lighter, stronger, how couldn’t this be a great phone? Tablet? One of those.
At the heart of every device are a few key components that make or break it. You got your processor (the brain), your RAM memory (short term memory), your screen, your camera, and your storage. Anything else is essentially just bells and whistles. So knowing this, how does the Note 3 stand up? Not too shabby to be honest. The Note 3 boasts a quad-core 2.5 GHz processor and 3 gigabytes of RAM. Let’s compare that to the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 has a dual core 1.3Ghz processor and one gigabyte of ram. The Note 3 blows the iPhone 5 out of the water in terms of technical specs; with not only double the cores but also each core is two times faster than the iPhone 5. Also, the Note 3 has over three times the Random Access Memory. This will allow for the N9005to run smoother during times where the user may have multiple apps open, and the smoothness of switching between those apps.
On to the other aspects that are still important, but not as essential. With a 5.7-inch 1920x1080 OLED screen, this is certainly a larger device. Although big, the 5.7 inches of glorious high resolution OLED is really quite the experience for a handheld device. To go along with this large screen is a 13-megapixel camera. It is positioned in the top center of the back of the phone, suggesting that this is no camera phone; this camera was meant to be used to take the perfect shot. Without getting into major detail, let’s just say that this camera is the camera all other phone cameras want to be when they grow up, great clarity and perfect resolution. Interestingly enough, this large touchscreen also comes with a stylus, something we have yet to see on anything apart from Blackberries and Gameboys. Though, we can understand it -- the name of the device is “Note” after all. This will definitely help you take full advantage of the large note sized screen, and maybe actually take some notes on it!
In terms of storage, the device comes by default with 32 gigabytes of storage. To put that in perspective, a movie usually takes around 2.5 - 3.5 gigabytes of storage space. 32 gigs is a good size though, if you are a normal user and put normal things on it like apps, music, pictures and so on, chances are that you are not going fill 32 gigabytes. And if you for some reason do, in today’s day and age it’s as simple as uploading it to the cloud instead. Technically speaking, this device is a monster. The specs can easily blow its competitors out of the water, if you are comparing it to phones that is. The Note lies in the grey area between tablets and phones. There are bigger tablets that are more powerful, and there are smaller phones that are less. So it is hard to compare in that regard. But there is no doubt that this is a very powerful device for its size. While not for everyone, we think its fills its niche market quite nicely.
