Razer Mamba Review

Looking at its luxuriant packaging, the Razer Mamba could easily pass as a jewelry in the midst of a gadget shop. As expensive as it is, it could very well be one. And with all the attention it’s getting and all the money it requires, this question had never had any greater need for an answer: is it worth it? The Mamba’s fascia does look a bit odd, but its strangeness does have a purpose. When other mice go for either the palm grip or the finger grip design, the Mamba can accomodate both. With a slight adjustment in the position of the hands, users can switch from one grip to another. It has a hard rubber finish that guarantees firm traction with the palm and fingers and has a size that perfectly fits the average hand. It’s almost perfect in its ergonomics, except for the fact that, basing from its design, Mamba can never be a leftee’s mouse. But if that’s not quite a concern, the Mamba can be a hardcore gamer’s very reliable ally. It has a range of up to 6400 DPI and 1 millisecond refresh rate which gives it both accuracy and speed not to mention that it has both infrared and laser sensors for enhanced surface recognition. The Mamba also has lots of room for user-specific configuration. Through it’s customization app, each of its seven buttons can be assigned a particular function. One can even change its backlight color with an added color cycling option. Perhaps the only thing that can’t be configured with the Mamba is its heft. Most high-end gaming mice have a weight adjustment kit which is something this mouse lacks. Its 130-gram weight gives it enough stability, though some may have to grow accustomed to its unconventional weight distribution. Wired or wireless, Mamba doesn’t fail to impress. Its response time doesn’t change in either modes and its USB cable, which doubles as its charger, offers seamless hours of playing. Stingy buyers may have to wait for it to go on sale, but for those who don’t mind the price, Razer Mamba proves. beyond a doubt, that it’s worth its weight in gold.
  • The Good :
can accomodate finger and palm grip, wired/wireless mode option, competitive DPI and refresh rate
  • The Bad :
costly, no weight adjustment kit, for right-handed players only
