Pioneer SP-FS52 Review
- Four Drivers
- Floor-standing tower speakers
- Natural midrange tones
The Pioneer SP fs52 is an entry level, floor-standing, two-speaker, home theatre system from Pioneer. The speakers are available from a range of different retailers. The FS52’s are sold as a an entry level contribution to a home theatre system.
What is the sound quality ?
As for the Pioneer SP fs52 frequency response; they deliver excellent mid-range sound—offering crisp clear and accurate natural sound quality. For the purpose of these speakers as an entry-level home theatre system, good mid-range sound quality is most essential—the majority of instruments, vocals, and sound and dialogue across movies and TV sit within the mid-range. The smooth and clear listening experience offered by the Pioneer SP fS52 is great for this purpose. Overall, the speakers are lacking in the lower range frequencies. The bass is neither punchy nor omnipresent in different circumstances—bass centric listening experiences across music or action movie sequences for example—would fall short.
What are the features ?
The two Pioneer SP fs52 tower speakers have a sensitivity of 87 dBs. The sensitivity of a speaker describes how effectively they can convert power to sound output—this is a fairly average sensitivity rating. However, the speakers have a 6-ohm load; the ohms load is the unit that measures a speaker impedance—the physical properties within a speaker that determines how it restricts the electrical current flowing through it—the 6-ohms indicate that the Pioneer SP fs52 tower speakers have a low resistance to power, making them more power efficient than many other speakers in their price range. As for the Pioneer SP-FS52 frequency response; each speaker features three 5.25-inch drivers. While these handle the high to mid-range frequencies comfortably and pleasantly; as a general rule, drivers under 8-inch or 12-inches are less optimal for bass production.
Conclusion: Should I buy it ?
The pioneer SP FS52 price is competitive for the $200 - $300 market. The Pioneer SP fs52 offers very good mid-range frequency output for a pair of smaller tower speakers—packaged in an unassuming black and wood texture finish that would make a good visual accompaniment to many home theatre systems. These speakers do significantly lack in the low-range bass audio output however—for an all-encompassing and full bodied listening experience, one would need to purchase a separate subwoofer to accompany the Pioneer SP FS52 setup—this is a partial downfall for buyers looking for a complete setup.
