Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300 Review
With rival companies striving to win the longest zoom lens race, Panasonic, with its new Lumix DMC-FZ300 chose to go with a relatively smaller zoom range lens. Like its predecessor, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200, the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300 uses the 24 X Leica branded zoom lens and has also retained the f/2.8 aperture. At the onset, this did not seem like the best move, considering the market’s growing obsession with long range zoom lens, but the truth that Panasonic must have known is the challenge of maintaining quality images with longer zoom lenses. As a result, the Panasonic Lumix FZ300 may be a safe play as regards zoom range, but it delivers on excellent image quality and has additional features that give it an edge in the competitive world of cameras.
The Lumix FZ300 is able to capture both stills and videos with a remarkable 4K imaging. This imaging performance is capable of taking an astounding 30 high resolution frames in a second, allowing you to capture the most fleeting of moments in video. With this 4K imaging you are able to extract 8MP photos from the video. The 4K imaging also has a photo function that comes in three modes; the 4K Pre-Burst, the 4K Burst and the 4K Burst Start/Stop. These allow you to start recording a second before and a second after pressing the shutter button, allowing you to extract any frame in the high burst video, or to extract all frames of the video in 8MP pictures respectively.
The Panasonic Lumix FZ300 also features an OLED view finder with a 1440k dot resolution that guarantees high visibility, high magnification and excellent contrast ratio. This organic LED EVF also has proximity sensors for better photo and video shooting. It also has a 3 inch LCD screen that can tilt allowing you to take pictures at pretty much all angles. The LCD screen can also be used as a quasi-touch pad to select the focus point of a shot.
The 24X, F2.8 LEICA DC lens is capable of taking excellent photos in low light settings across the whole zoom range. Its 12.1MP MOS sensor does incredible diffraction compensation, giving high quality pictures in dim lighting. Besides taking photos of zoomed in objects, the Panasonic Lumix FZ300 is also capable of taking excellent macro photos at focus distances of up to 1cm. It also has a DFD AF (depth from defocus auto focus) that works to smoothly bring the object of a shot into focus as well as improving focus stability. It also has optical image correction functions that reduce image distortion and blur.
It has a good well textured grip and has splash and dust proof design that features tight seals at all dials and buttons as well as the corners and joints. This considerably increases the camera’s useful life as well as frees you to take the shots you want regardless of the environment you find yourself in. It also has a good ergonomic placement of the control dials. They do not interfere in any way with shooting activities.
The Lumix FZ300 also comes with a 3.5 millimeter audio jack. It also has a built-in Wi-Fi antenna that allows you to pair your camera with your Android or Apple phone or tablet for further editing and uploading. This feature, together with the Panasonic Image App, also allows you to control and change your
camera settings from your device. You can even select the focus remotely!!
