Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm F1.8 Review
Whether you are a professional or an amateur photographer, you will love the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm f1.8 silver colored lens. It is designed for the Olympus and Panasonic Micro 4/3 Cameras in a 75 mm style and it is the equivalent of 150 mm and 35 mm high grade portrait lens. Although it is made for photography studio use, this highly optimized single focal telephoto lens it is also great for indoor sports photography and stage productions.
The compact size of the camera is perfect for mobility. It is only slightly larger than the Nikon 85 mm 1.8 G lens; therefore it is one of the largest lenses for the micro four thirds cameras. The photos are clear and sharp from corner to corner, edge to edge. The images are so clear and sharp that most photographers find it hard to believe, until they try it for themselves. The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm f1.8 is the new benchmark by which all other 70mm four third lens are compared. Whether you are shooting still shots, or using the movie mode, the auto focus mechanism works flawlessly with almost no noise. If you are going get a shot of the basketball dunk as the player goes for the high jump, everything including the action of him in midair, the ball going into the net and the expressions on the fans' faces will all be in clear focus. This gives you the ability concentrate on framing the shot and less about the lens setting. The nine blades with a circular aperture with a 50 mm glass front is a feature you will love. The 10 lens elements in nine groups make it even more incredible.
The lens is beautifully made and the glass is of high quality and perfectly smooth. Some photographers have said that it looks like a fine piece of art. It is crafted from the highest quality aluminum and has more than double of the weight of other four thirds lenses. The operation is fantastic and it fits tight to the body of the camera. The pictures are clear and sharp, the color and contrast is excellent even in low light or wide open in direct sunlight. On the other side, this lens is designed for micro four thirds cameras without mirrors. It is not compatible with Nikon D60 because the mount is different and the mirror requires a different flange focal distance. The lens needs a short distance between the sensor and the mounting flange; because of this an adapter will not work. However, it is compatible with the Panasonic Lumix dh2 series without an adapter as well as all digital PENS cameras.
It comes with a cheap plastic lens cap that is hard to remove. Most photography retailers recommend replacing it with the metal cap designed for the LC 61. It fits perfectly, it is not hard to remove, and it is extremely attractive. Under certain conditions, some photographers have noted a slight purple haze along the edge of the picture. However, it is barely noticeable, and most people never see it no matter what angle or light the photograph is displayed.
