Nikon Monarch 8x42 DCF Review
The Nikon Monarch uses optics systems that are known for high contrast negatives. This gives sharper resolution, and is therefore ideal in binoculars. The Nikon Monarch 8X42 DCF has the smallest linear (straight) field of view. This means the distance can be viewed in short, which is a unique feature in comparison to other binoculars. Other models have an increased 10 to 40 meter difference.
The Nikon Monarch does not have fully multi-coated lenses. Multi-coating introduces anti-reflection coats for brighter image view. The lack of sadly it reduces clarity, contrast and light transmission in the Nikon Monarch. Nevertheless, these binoculars remain good for average users. Enhanced reflectivity is present in this binocular due to its prisms. They are coated with dielectric layers. This provides around 99% reflectivity on these components. The carrying strap and general shape of the Nikon binoculars make them portable and durable. They are also lightweight; specifically 21.5 ounces in this model. The most prominent material is polycarbonate resin with rubberized coating. This helps with ideal grip and shock resistance. In addition to this, the binoculars are reinforced with fiberglass.
The sights allow for 19.6mm of eye relief and people who wear glasses will find this feature useful. The central top-mounted focus knob on the Nikon Monarch is convenient and quick to turn, which makes the overall handling process quite easy. This binocular is 0-ring sealed as well as nitrogen filled, and this makes it 100% fog proof (due to the nitrogen). Moreover, it is also water proof up to 1 meter or 3.3 feet (with absolute protection against stormy weather), which further increases durability. The roof prisms of the Nikon monarch 8X42 DCF are coated with phase correction lenses. This enhances resolution even if the lens is used for short range viewing. The eco-glass optics incorporated in the Nikon Monarch does not contain lead or arsenic. This makes these binoculars a lot more environment-friendly.
The rubber eyecups can be turned or slid around their axis for easy eye positioning and correct viewing. The objective lens cap is of a flip-down nature. These binoculars have a design element that permits easy mounting on a tripod adapter. The Nikon Monarch has an effective magnification up to 8 times. This is neither too log nor too short. The length when held in hand is about 5 inches from one end to the other. The length from eye caps to lenses is 5.7 inches. All of this makes for a very decent short-to-medium, day-by-day sightseeing binocular.
