With a beautiful lightweight design, the Microsoft Surface Laptop will give you solid performance and decent battery life while packing a great high-resolution display.
There is a massive lack of ports on the Surface Laptop and it’s a tad expensive when compared to other laptops in its class. Windows 10 S also annoyingly limits the apps that you can install. While it’s upgradeable to Windows 10 Pro, it may end up costing you if you don’t do it before the end of 2017.
Is it for you?
The Microsoft Surface Laptop is a nice looking, portable laptop that gives you solid performance, a vibrant screen, and good battery life. It's a good buy if you're looking for a stylish laptop for day-to-day use. That said, it has a slightly higher price tag than its competitors. So, it’s worth taking a look at the other laptops in this price range that offer similar performance.

Meet the Microsoft Surface Laptop
The Microsoft Surface Laptop is the first laptop-only addition to Microsoft’s Surface product family. Microsoft has been gaining a reputation for making high-quality laptops and tablets to showcase its Windows software on. To the delight of Microsoft fans and laptop lovers alike, the Surface Laptop is no exception to this trend.

What we like
The Microsoft Surface Laptop is beautiful. It stands out from other laptops with a fabric-like material in its interior that gives it a modern and sophisticated look. The fabric covering makes the laptop both unique and comfortable while also offering extra protection from coffee or water spills. The laptop also offers a beautiful display too, truly making it eye candy.
Featuring a touchscreen, this laptop supports Windows Ink and styluses if drawing is your passion. The Surface Laptop has the hardware to handle most programs, though the base model could have some trouble with more demanding software. The long battery life will let you get a ton of use of it before needing a charger. The sound system in this tiny laptop is also surprisingly good and the inclusion of Windows Hello, a face recognition feature, adds some extra security.
What we don’t like
The most important thing to mention is the ports or, should I say, the lack of them. The Surface Laptop has only one USB port (3.0) and a few other less important ports.
Another thing that you should know is that Windows 10 S, which comes pre-installed on the Surface Laptop, is terrible. It limits you to installing apps from the Windows Store and only allows you to use Microsoft’s Edge internet browser. That means that you can only search the web using Bing... It can be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro for free, but that’s only until December 31, 2017. After that, you’ll have to pay to upgrade.
Also, if you opt for the less expensive base model, you might run into storage issues with the hard drive's relatively small capacity.

Should you buy it?
The Microsoft Surface Laptop boasts stunning looks, a nice screen, solid performance, and good battery life. That makes it a great laptop for day-to-day use. That said, the performance is nothing special for the price. Combine that with the lack of ports and cumbersome Windows 10 S operating system and it’s worth checking out some other laptops in its price range before buying.
