Mario Kart 8 (Wii U) Review
Nintendo offered us an early Christmas gift with the release of the Mario Kart 8 (Wii U) in June 2014. It’s actually one of the best opus of the game since Mario Kart 64. It may not come close to Double Dash in terms of experimentation and risks but it brings new ideas into the gaming industry altogether. This game will make you feel like racing upside down with its huge improvements on the most essential aspects of the game. The speed, nice track designs, online features, marvelous graphics and twisting turns are better in this game than in any of its predecessors. If you combine all these exceptional features, you are ensured to enjoy hours of fun each time you turn on your Wii U with this game! Some people have branded it king of the mascot kart circuit but whatever the case, it’s worth its salt.
Mario Kart 8 (Wii U)’s efficiency starts just at the beginning of the game. Everything works faster than in the previous versions. Unlocking the cars and customizing them can be done in seconds, and you are able to recover faster than in previous versions. With the additional features such as Piranha Plant, Boomerang Flower and the Super Horn Skill, you also get to know new ways to trap your opponents!
The most outstanding upgrade of the Mario Kart 8 (Wii U) must be the antigravity transformations. Nintendo have introduced a new unique mechanic to the race and you can enjoy the impressive visuals courtesy of the transformations. However, you should be aware that when in anti gravity mode, you may boost your opponents’ speed if they are close to you during the actual bump. You need to find some tricks to keep away from your opponent during your acceleration and it create a whole new strategic aspect to the game.
With its creative track designs, it’s easier to use the antigravity mode without having any problems. A perfect track to try on it would be the Wario stadium, but when it comes to the donut Plains 3, some old fashioned skills may help out a bit. The shorts cuts may be short and deceptive but with a lot of practice, you can come up with a great idea of overcoming the hurdle. The game includes 30 characters in total, and you are able to select one of the brand new mascots which include the kooper kids. Nevertheless, you might find smaller racers who flood the roster.
In conclusion, Mario Kart 8 (Wii U) is an amazing game, probably one of the best from Nintendo so far. Nintendo did a good job in balancing the new and creative ideas added and the fundamental older ideas true fans love. Its graphics and soundtracks are breathtaking but you will certainly be amazed by the other features as well. The option of playing online is also a great addition to this game. You can play with up to 12 players from all over the world, improve your skills and enjoy playful and challenging competition!
