Logitech Harmony Elite Review
- 2.4-inch touch-screen
- Supports SmartThings, Nest and Philips Hue among others
- Built-in rechargeable battery and dock
- Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Logitech Harmony Elite is a smart-home generation universal remote. It controls your AV and TV equipment just as other universal remotes, but with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi it also gets to control other smart gadgets as well. Sonos, Samsung, Nest and Philips Hue are only few of the devices which it can control. Though somewhat pricey, the Logitech Harmony remote is a great product for any smart-home adopter to acquire.
What is the performance ?
The universal Logitech remote functions via radio frequency (RF), as opposed to infrared (IR), implying one does not require line-of-sight to one’s components. The activity-based system of Harmony provides easy operation for functions such as "Watch TV," with the Elite handling a maximum of up to 15 AV devices.
What are the features ?
Logitech is great at making audio-visual electronics and Harmony Elite embodies this fact. It is weighted perfectly and just feels right on the hands, featuring a coarse plastic rear that offers good grip. The buttons also have a defined click, with a touch-screen of 2.4-inches adding contextual information, like shortcuts to channels with logos as you watch TV. A charging dock is included within the box, with the remote utilising built-in rechargeable batteries along with Harmony Hub. The Harmony Hub is responsible for handling external communication with other gadgets, like those which infrared does not control.
Harmony Elite has a simple setup. This aspect contrasts markedly with previous Harmony gadgets of equivalent form that required plugging remote into PC with each change of settings. The Harmony app of Logitech walks the user through setting up gadgets and synchronizing settings wirelessly. Logitech boasts a huge database of AV systems and TVs. You can build activities combining different actions into a single one, after adding your devices. “Watch a Film” could for instance imply turning on the TV or turning on the AV system among other functions. One can utilise the app for remote-control functions or purchase the Hub alone then use one’s phone if this is preferable.
The price of the Logitech Harmony Elite is approximately $350. However, the Harmony 650 from Logitech costs about $80 yet allows the user to merge remotes reaching a maximum number of 8 home entertainment gadgets. Logitech Harmony One is its flagship universal remote that employs the universal database of more than 200k products for managing a maximum of 15 gadgets for your setup. Its usual cost is about $200. The Logitech Harmony Elite is nonetheless a special universal-remote system with the ability to control the entire home entertainment system using just your Android phone, iPhone, tablet, or the remote included, via the Harmony Hub. The touch-screen it sports makes the device more versatile compared to cheaper models. This is significant especially for calling up Roku apps and favourite channels. Simply put, the harmony remote is well worth its price. Smart-home connectivity is a game-changer in many ways and Logitech’s system appears to be the “Smart Home” hub which has been missing until now.
