Intel Core I7-9700K Review
The 3-Minute Intel Core i7-9700K Review
Hyperthreading? No thanks

Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 4/5
Intel decided that the i7 was no longer going to be the headline act in its performer stable of CPUs. Instead, the spot light was destined to be fixed solely on the Intel core i9 range of CPUs. This is fine for most people, as the multithreaded nature of high end CPUs very rarely gets the full use squeezed from it by modern applications and games. A Core i7 could still be more than enough for you.
The pricing on Intel CPUs has ever been its aim selling point, aside from the entry level to enthusiast grade products that have always managed to find favour with the mid-range crowds. This means that the i7 CPUs are now finding themselves in unfamiliar territory, without Hyperthreading but with higher prices than competitive CPUs from AMD. How this plays out in the long term will be interesting.
Is it for you?
This is a CPU that is very difficult to argue against, especially since it is now finding itself being marketed towards the midrange segment of the consumer market. There is no longer any hyper threading support for these i7 CPUs, which shouldn’t really worry you unless you are performing tasks that require it. If you are looking to have a server, then there are other CPU ranges for you to look at.
Meet the Intel i7 9900K
If you are looking for a competent gaming machine that won’t break the bank too badly, then this is likely to be a great substitute for the monstrous i9 range of CPUs, with less demanding heat profiles for you to deal with.
What we like
We like that the i7 is now a slightly more affordable range of CPUs and that it hasn’t entirely sacrificed all of the performance hallmarks that made the i7s so popular to begin with in the first place. Intel knew what they were doing when they designed this range of CPUs, so even though we are looking at a drop in clock speeds and extra cores, we still have a high quality CPU with great performance characteristics.
If you are looking to use this CPU for gaming, then you will be impressed with the way in which it is able to dish up the performance stats for your gaming requirements. Even if you are a creator that needs to render a lot of content, then you will still probably enjoy this CPU.
What we don’t like
There is not much that we don’t like about these CPUs. They run really well, they do not run really hot, and they are quite affordable when compared to some of the alternatives that are available on the market. This is not the first choice for video editors and 3D editors, but it will do the job if you are in a pinch.
Should you buy it?
If you can’t afford an i9 processor and don’t want to take a chance on any other brand of CPU, then it is safe to say that you would probably be more than happy with the price versus performance of this CPU when compared to any other comparable processor in this price range. How you decide to use these CPUs entirely up to you, but you will be happy with this choice if you end up with one of these great CPUs.
