Intel Core I7-4790K Review
The Intel Core i7-4790K is based upon Haswell design and codenamed Devil’s Canyon, managing to provide a decent boost in hardware performance. Thermal material is used in designing this CPU, enabling conducting of heat away from transistors all through to heat-sink. It means this chip exhibits better capacity of dissipating heat than the original models, enabling them run fairly faster without experiencing overheating.
The high-end i5-4690K processor from Intel employs some modest 3.5GHz base clock speed, which is just 100MHz better than that of its i5-4670k preceding core. Intel i7-4790K utilizes similar design and boosts the base clock speed up to 4GHz. Turbo boost technology is employed by the Intel Core i7-4790K, accelerating this speed to even further speeds.
Just as the previous core i7-4770K, Intel 4790K is 1150-pin LGA processor which is compatible with the 8- and 9-series chipsets of Intel. The 4790K as well notably incorporates new TIM, yet still exhibits compatibility with all the LGA1150 coolers. This new processor appears to be an enthusiastic revision that tags along updated packaging materials, smoother power owing to the use of additional capacitors and updated packaging materials. It retains the same architecture in general from its earlier 4770K version, but does not have dramatic boosts in speed. Intel Core i7-4790K brings along improved High Definition 4600 graphics solution that offers decent performance of gaming. Many enthusiasts however like pairing it up with a dedicated graphics card.
In summary, the device features Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, 16 PCI Express 3.0 lanes and comes unlocked in full for performance tuning. It also has Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, 4 Cores for a total of 8 threads, 8MB Smart Cache, LGA 1150 Socket and DDR3-1600 Dual-Channel RAM support as well as Base frequency lies at 4.0 GHz. You will benefit as well from watching graphics at 1250MHz using the High Definition 4600 Graphics functionality from Intel. At present performance of IGP continues to raise concerns in non-synthetic benchmarks, which is a demerit to the i7-4790K from Intel. The fact that graphics have hardly been improved may affect how the CPU is received by some potential users too.
Intel offers this gadget at same price as its older counterpart, which still does not detract from the considerably high cost of the newer CPU model. Users will benefit greatly from the multi-threaded, heavy duty computing capabilities of the i7-4790K. The functionality may however not suit the average user who does not perform intensive computing operations and could as such settle on a cheaper i5 or i3 core model. The Devil’s Canyon seems not to target the low-power, low-cost market, but enthusiasts who function with multiple workstation jockeys. It delivers to them better performance than previous Intel models and the i7-4790 assures of outstanding desktop performance to any user.
