P10 Plus, Minus FM Radio
By Graeme Messina | March 27, 2018
Features & Design: 3.5/5 ● Performance: 4.5/5 ● Value: 3/5 ● Battery: 4/5
It is an Aluminum uni-body, Gorilla Glass covered 6.04” inch smart device (5.5” screen). It has a maximum resolution of 1440 x 2560 with a 16:9 Aspect Ratio, and an impressive 540 PPI Density. (Pixels Per Inch)
There are a few items that might not appeal to you, but these are generally minor. It has a non-removable battery (like most phones these days), it lacks an FM radio receiver, and it does not offer wireless charging.
Is it for you?
If you are looking for a device that has a beautiful screen with high detail capabilities, excellent viewing angles, and a PPI rating that is incredibly high, then this could be for you.
Meet the Huawei P10 Plus
The Huawei P10 Plus is a remarkably detailed and stylish device, and it has all of the hallmarks of a flagship smart phone device. It has 3 cameras (2 back, 1 front), offering amazing quality photos with the dual lens setup on the back of the device, and clear and crisp selfies made possible via the front facing 12MP camera. The device boasts 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and a Cortex-A73 Octacore CPU, as well as 4x1.8GHz Cortex-A53s.
What we like
The phone’s performance is exceptional, with the generous amount of RAM and high speed CPU configuration, the device can chew through just about anything that you put in front of it. This translates into an experience that will allow you to use your smartphone day and night with no glitching or excessive waiting times for apps to open and close.
The cameras have been implemented side by side on the back of the device, allowing users to take exquisite shots with focus being independent on each, giving a professional look to your photos.
The screen is a IPS-NEO LCD, which is capacitive and it has 16M colours. The actual screen size is 5.5” inches and fits snuggly in the hand. The overall quality and construction is superb, making it clear that this is indeed a flagship device.
What we don’t like
There are some minor setbacks with this device, but they are primarily personal issues that are highly subjective. The first is a gripe that many people have with modern smartphones in general: non removable system batteries. This is not a big deal for many people, but if your phone gets stuck or frozen (which rarely occurs with this device), then it would be nice to be able to open the cover and yank the battery out.
A lack of FM radio is again something that will not bother the vast majority of consumers, who listen to their audio shows predominantly online, but as a flagship device it would have been nice to see something like that included.
Should you buy it?
This is a smart and stylish phone with impressive display and camera features. Battery life is good, meaning that a full day and a bit more should be possible when in use. The battery itself is a 3750mAh unit, providing plenty of power for general usage.
There is an infrared port equipped on this phone as well, so you can control your house hold appliances such TVs, Media Boxes, Air Conditioners, and much more. Although the device has a USB-C connector, it still only runs at USB 22.0 speeds, so don’t be surprised if your beautiful photos and videos take a long time to copy over a USB cable.
