Huawei Mate S Review
Huawei’s sleek Mate S is its newest smartphone with a few amazing features like the finger print scanner. The Mate S has a beautiful design with the body made entirely from metal except for the screen. The 5.5 inch display is Full HD and is covered in a 2.5D Gorilla Glass. The rear side is not all straight but has a curved design that gives the phone a beautifully contoured exterior. The curvature also helps in a way to keep the phone's edges at a minimum thickness. The power and volume keys are conveniently placed along the right edge. These are responsive and give good tactile response.
You will find the port for plugging in your headphones at the top edge and the bottom edge houses the USB port for charging and sharing data. This port is placed between two grills that sort of give the impression that the Mate S’ speakers are dual though they are not. The 8 megapixel selfie camera is placed just above the screen and has an LED flash adjacent to it. The main camera is placed at the back and has a resolution of 13 megapixels. It also has an LED flash which is dual tone. The fingerprint scanner is found just below the 13 MP camera. The scanner is within the reach of the fore finger and is of remarkable quality. It is fast and accurate and also easy to use. In addition, it has a few other functions besides scanning your print for example; one can withdraw the pull down notification panel on the screen by simply swiping down the scanner!! It can also be used to receive calls and even activate the camera and take pictures.
The main camera features both an Optical Image Stabilizer and a RGBW image sensor. The sensor is housed behind a sapphire coating that protects it from scratches. The Mate S comes with a pre-installed cool camera app that sports features like the panorama, time lapse, night mode, HDR as well as a slow motion mode. Both cameras are capable of shooting Full HD clips but the videos shot with the main camera are better because of the higher resolution and also because Huawei only put the Optical Image Stabilizer feature in the main camera.
The Mate S is available in two models: there is the 32 GB entry model and the 64 GB model. The internal memory in both models is expandable by use of a micro SD card. Huawei also released a third model that features a 128 GB internal storage as well as Force Touch screen, but this model is a limited edition and can only be found in specific markets.
The Mate S’ battery has a 2700mAh capacity and is non-removable. This capacity can give a good battery life to last you around six hours or an entire day depending on how much you are tasking the handset. If you are big on gaming and online streaming, this may turn out to be a low capacity battery for you.
Huawei Mate S runs on Android’s Lollipop with Huawei’s customized skin. This UI is not a bad choice since it helps keep folders organized by removing app drawers. In addition, it is also simple and easy to use. The processor is quad core and runs at a frequency of 2.2 GHz.
