Harman Kardon SoundSticks III Review
Harman Kardon SoundSticks III speakers maintain the same internal components admirable in the past predecessors. These include four drivers of 1 inch mounted vertically in dual 10-watt satellite speakers, along with the 20-watt subwoofer sitting on the floor from which they draw power. You still require reaching down to subwoofer in order to turn off system. Its capacitive buttons might not be much to worry about if you are comfortable with few details missing.
Original Soundsticks made their first appearance in year 2000, which is when Apple introduced iMac G3 computer and the two devices carry similar aesthetics. Soundsticks III utilizes the same clear plastic transparency suitable for satellite and subwoofer combination. Comparisons have been made of this with the pale light inside to a jellyfish glow. Harman Kardon lowers internal blue-light intensity, implying they do not distract as on the two last models.
The two 10-watt transparent satellite speakers have each four 1-inch drivers that are built into vertical column and appear similar to Soundstick II speakers. This comes with exception of new black color for base rings, which allow for adjustment of satellite angle that aids if your desk height is incongruous with the chair. Satellites have been wired to open ports on the subwoofer’s 10.2 x 9.2-inch bottom, linking together using cable wrapped in a transparent housing. This provides extra protection against humans, pets and other external factors which might chew up wires within the house. The input jack of this subwoofer is 1/8-inch, meaning anyone with male audio output is able to play music on Soundsticks. This comes along with setting up computer-play by the system, which takes only few minutes.
SoundSticks offers great quality of audio, which is the same as its predecessor. The sub is equipped with volume knob for boosting dialing back bass response. Like majority of subwoofers, it performs naturally the most when volume is set just as or slightly lower than the halfway point. Knob placement may be slightly disappointing, though it can be adjusted once or twice without having to return to it again, arguably. Distortion artifacts appear after boosting the subwoofer to maximum, though this does not show how to listen to music. At maximum volume, the low end is relatively intense and thus not well-suited for offering a balanced mix. Some listeners may prefer having heavier setting of subwoofer when watching movies. The sub, when set at reasonable levels, provides crisp audio experience that exhibits a well-defined, generous low end, whichever the type of music being played, whether acoustic, classical, rap, rock or jazz.
Harman Kardon SoundSticks III offer fairly light cosmetic upgrades, though it still retains certain irritations, carried from its predecessor. The speaker system will not disappoint however, if you like its iridescent design. These speakers equip music enthusiasts with a total of four drivers within each satellite, together with large subwoofer for pumping extra bass. No external jack is available to plug in headphones however and bas controls get mounted on subwoofer itself. It implies that you are unable to turn off translucent lighting without powering down the system in entirety.
