Google Pixel 4 XL Review
The 3-Minute Google Pixel 4XL Review
The Google Phone
Google Pixel 4XL is Google's flagship device, released this October this was no surprise to us as this phone was heavily leaked beforehand. The Pixel 4 and 4XL are very similar but with a few small changes mostly being battery size and screen size.
The look and feel of the Pixel XL are very simplistic and modern with a square camera bump on the rear and the device coming in three colors, white, orange and black with a unique black grip bar around the phone and a pop of color with the power bar. The Screen sadly has a large screen bezel that hides the motion-sensing Soli chip, IR camera, dot projector, and flood illuminator.
The Pixel 4 XL is Google's idea of how Android devices should be made. With Google Assistant and the language model being integrated into the software making it faster in response time. The changing tide of screens seems to be a repeated here with the display having a 90Hz refresh rate with its 6.3-inch P-OLED display. All run with a Qualcomm SDM855 Snapdragon and 6GB RAM managed by the Oxygen OS 10.0.3.
Features & Design: 4/5 | Performance: 4/5 | Value: 3/5 | Battery Life: 3/5
Coming out with motion sense the Pixel 4 XL can detect its user and their movements, with the Soli chip creating a field of view around the phone it can detect when you about to pick it up or if you just want to snooze your alarm. Google has removed the fingerprint sensor and opted for facial recognition using two IR camera and a dot projector to fully map out your face.
There are a few unpleasing aspects about this phone firstly being the lack of extra storage leaving you to use Googles One Membership to store your images on the cloud and this membership will be an extra cost. Secondly being the small battery size, this only leaves you with 4 hours of on-screen time. Then Lastly the very buggy motion sensor when trying to flip through songs or snooze your alarm, it just simply doesn’t work 100% of the time.
Is it for you?
The Pixel 4XL is more of the everyday assisting phone with the built-in Google Assistant. This means a lot more help with little effort just using voice commands. It can automatically transcribe speech and categorize different types of audio in recordings. It can help when driving showing live view on Google maps while driving and has an amazing safety feature that can detect when you have had an accident and call 911.
What we like
Google has also used a setup of triple cameras to give you a wide range of image and video capabilities such as the night sight mode and the ability to adjust the exposure in separate parts of the image all while taking the photo.
What we don’t like
So, there is a downside with the Pixel 4XL and that it is pricy for a mid-range device.
Should you buy it?
The Google Pixel 4XL is more of a mid-range phone with an average three-camera setup rather opting for better AI to manage the lighting in images and reducing noise.
The Pixel has rather focuses on making a phone that is a better assistant giving better speech recognition, high speck motion sensing, and gesture control.
