Google Pixel 3 XL Review
The 3-Minute Google Pixel 3 XL Review
Pixel 3 XL
By Graeme Messina | November 09, 2018
Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 4/5 ● Battery Life 4/5
The Pixel 3 XL takes all of the things that make the Pixel 3 a great phone, and then supersizes them. The camera is perhaps the biggest attraction here, along with the bigger size and clear display. The battery life is a long lasting 3,430mAh pack, which gives the user a much better experience and is sure to last well during the day when in use.
Most users have very little to complain about with this model, the Google Pixel 3XL. The biggest detraction from the device’s overall functionality is the notch on the screen, which mimics the Apple iPhone X series of phones.
Is it for you?
If you like plus sized phones, as well as better battery life, then this is a good choice. It offers an updated version on Android, with some other software enhancements to make the general use of the phone very user friendly. The styling is very similar to the standard Pixel 3, but with bigger dimensions and slightly more weight.
Meet the Google Pixel 3
Because Google is primarily a software company, it should come as no surprise that the main focus of this device is in the AI technologies that are coming to such prominence in tech markets. The camera is a prime example of this, and it is unusual to say the least. Instead of taking a multiple camera lens approach on the back of the phone, Google has instead opted to keep a single 12.2MP camera. The magic happens on the software level, making exceptionally balanced images from an average camera.
What we like
We like the overall aesthetics of the device, and even the notch is not really that big of a deal after using the phone for a while. The entire phone is encased with glass, and the styling is familiar, much like the previous models of Google’s Pixel line up of phones.
The notch hides two front facing selfie cams, giving you great high quality shots when you feel the need to take group of selfie pics with those front facing cameras. The all glass design provides for a fresh looking, stylish device, but as it is glass it will attract fingerprints.
The 6.3-inch screen is OLED with a QHD+ resolution, as well as HDR support. It also features a slim bezel that is small, giving this device an incredible screen to body ratio.
What we do not like
This is a much better phone than the last generation of Google Pixel phones, but it might not be for you if you don’t enjoy a notch, or if you have smaller hands. Some people might be doubtful about the single camera option on the back of the device, because multiple cameras are so common on flagship devices today.
Should you buy it?
Definitely buy this phone if you need a high performance phone with an incredible camera. The internal components will let you run just about any application that you need throughout your day. The battery will give you all enough power to last throughout the day, and fast charging is also available. All in all, Google has made a plus sized device that offers a good camera and highly functional internal components.
