Google Nexus 5 By LG 16GB Review
Google Nexus 5, a smartphone by Google in collaboration with LG, follows the companies' policies on the cellphone industry, adding even more to the already thick competition on its category. On paper, this so-called “budget Android smartphone” certainly packs a lot of punch, promising to give users an Android experience like no other. But how does it really fare?
The Google Nexus 5 by LG 16GB boasts a powerful 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with an Adreno 330 GPU on 2GB of RAM and an operating system with the latest Android platform update, the 4.4.2 KitKat. This combination results to a blazing and incredibly speedy performance, allowing users to navigate menus, apps, and even web pages very quickly and effortlessly, without any lags. In addition, it also makes playing Pixel Gun 3D, Real Racing 3 and other 3D games on its 5-inch display a truly exciting experience. LG employed its IPS LCD technology in the Nexus 5’s impressive 5-inch screen, which does a great job of displaying the attractive operating system. The brilliant 445 ppi display on the Google Nexus 5 by LG 16GB is hands down a vast improvement from the previous Nexus version. The full HD 1920x1080 display, along with its color accuracy, certainly offers up a stunning performance when it comes to streaming, browsing, or playing games.
When it comes to the touchscreen covering, the use of Gorilla Glass 3 ensures that this smartphone is protected from abrasion and impact. At the same time, it provides the right amount of resistance so dragging one’s fingers through the screen produces the desired response. This Google smartphone features an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (IOS), reducing the possibility of photos taken with the camera becoming blurry due to shaky or unsteady hands. However, its autofocus is quite slow on the uptake, which is a disappointment, considering how fast its shutter speed is. We have definitely seen better image quality results using other smartphones, but considering the Nexus 5’s price, many would let this flaw slide.
One thing that many users may find unforgivable, however, is its battery life. Those who use the Google Nexus 5 by LG throughout the day should expect to have to recharge it at least once or twice. Unfortunately, replacing the battery is not easy, since the unit comes with a plastic rear shell that cannot be removed. Available in black and white, the Nexus 5’s back is made of plastic while its front is glass. This makes it lighter than other phones out there today, thus making for more comfortable handling. However, some would argue that being too light actually runs the risk of its balance being compromised when being handled. The glossy plastic edges can also potentially cause problems, particularly for sweaty palms. If this is a problem for you, you may want to consider purchasing a separate case. The Google Nexus 5 by LG 16GB is the perfect choice for users who want the amazing value and performance of a Nexus 5 but find 32GB too much. If you are looking for great value for your money and have a high-performance Android smartphone at an affordable price, look no further than Google’s flagship, the Nexus 5.
