Garmin Nüvi 2589LMT Review
Over the years Garmin have been in the GPS market, they have been able to hold down their competitors and every time they introduce a new device, we are ready to feel that « awe » moment. However, it’s not much for the Garmin Navi 2589LMT. The interface is almost like any other product from Garmin and there are no excellent features to make it stand out. Nevertheless, we can give credit where it’s due. The Garmin Navi 2589LMT is a great GPS with a slim line design and thanks to its latest foursquare integration, you can now easily pair it with your smartphone to get better directions.
You wouldn’t expect it to come without a few faults. The first one being its reflective screen and you wouldn’t like that reflective screen when driving down the road during as sunny day. Moreover, its voice command feature is a bit off and might not get some street names correctly. This would somehow need you to pull over and use the screen menu to feed it with the right data. Other than that, this updated GPS keeps everything else simple, something that many people would like. However, it lacks that « oomph » in terms of features and given its price tag, it would eventually be a deal breaker for some people. Nevertheless, it’s a good fit for someone looking for a good mid ranger as it will get most of the wok done.
The Garmin Navi 2589LMT’s design has a premium feel and is easy to mount on your windshield. Moreover, it’s easy to fold it away when not in use. Given that some screen mounts become obstructive especially when driving a small car, then this GPS would certainly be practical although it doesn’t come with the extra features. Talking of features, the Garmin Navi 2589LMT interface is simple and looks just like any of the previous Garmin versions. It keeps things simple and that’s a big plus as you wouldn’t want to get yourself in trouble trying to figure out how to operate a GPS on the road. Well, thanks to its voice command feature you won’t be keeping your hands off the steering wheel when you need to confirm your current location. They say if ain’t broke don’t fix it and Garmin have used this in their interface for years. Unless you didn’t like their interface, there is no cause for alarm as it works perfectly.
When it comes to performance, the Garmin Navi 2589LMT works pretty well except for a few issues. It won’t get the commands correctly at some point especially with repetitive words such as Kulnar Kulnar, at that point you would have to key in the data. You would also need to feed in the correct street address. However, it doesn’t save your driving patterns and so when you have to go back to a certain place, you’ll have to feed the street address over again. Its foursquare integration makes it easy to pair it with an iOS or Android device for better location searches. With that said, it’s a worthy buy but the price tag would demand more that what it offers.
