Fujifilm X-T3 Review
The 3-Minute Fujifilm X-T3 Review
Nikon’s Premium Mirrorless Camera
By Graeme Messina | September 27, 2018
Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 4/5 ● Battery Life 4/5
Fujifilm has been making great cameras for many years, with high quality materials and top-notch designs and features. The X-T3 is therefore somewhat of a departure from previous models, as it comes with Fujifilm’s new X-Trans sensor, which combats image noise and other anomalies. It is fast to autofocus, is great at tracking, and is responsive enough for most photographers.
There are some minor control layout issues, particularly with the EV compensator, which is a control knob that is prone to accidental knocks. Because of this, the unit can feel a little unwieldly in the beginning. The post capture RAW processing could also use a little work, as it is a little on the slow side for some people. The viewfinder has a small issue for some people with fringing, although this isn’t a problem for most people.
Is it for you?
This is an excellent camera for those that wish to stray from the normal DSLR camera setups that people have become so accustomed to in recent times. This can be a refreshing avenue for some, as the light weight and faster capture times open up many doors for further experimentation and creative techniques. The new and improved sensor delivers great images and is sure to deliver the photographic goods when it is called upon to take the perfect shot.
Meet the Nikon Z6
The camera comes with a 3.2 inch LCD that has touch controls on it, with an impressive 1.04 million dots, giving it a reasonable DPI. The Electronic View Finder is really detailed, but it does have that slight fringing issue that we mentioned earlier. The LCD is adjustable and can be angled outwards so that you can achieve the perfect viewing angle.
What we like
We like the continuity that the X-T3 brings to the product line, which makes it an ideal replacement candidate for anyone that is moving up from one of the older generation cameras that use DSLR technologies. This is thanks in large part to the sensor which captures extremely decent detail with the appropriate lens, especially on the noise reduction front.
A gripe that many users have with mirrorless cameras is the fact that processing times often feel little lacklustre and slow, but that is not the case with the X-T3. Is is responsive and spritely, and even switches on reasonably quickly as well.
What we don’t like
The only real downside to this camera is that some of the control areas feel a little out of place, such as the previous example we gave earlier with the exposure compensator, where unintentional dial interactions can happen if you are not too careful. It is a minor complaint, but one that is worth being aware of. A locking mechanism would have been great, but again, it’s not a deal breaker.
Should you buy it?
If you already have a standard DSLR camera, and you are looking to try something new, like this mirrorless camera, then yes, this could be just the purchase for you. It has great internals that make light work of basic post processing on board, and it has all of the adjustments and controls that anybody could ask for. The responsiveness is what sets this camera apart from some of its rivals, and it is sure to find favour with a large audience that is looking to try something different.
