Bose SoundLink Mini II Review
The Bose SoundLink Mini II is a portable Bluetooth speaker that you can use around the house and sometimes outdoors. It’s a small speaker that you can easily carry around with one hand although it won’t fit in your pocket. However, it has reached the limits of what you would expect from a tiny Bluetooth speaker that doesn’t compromise much on the sound quality. If you haven’t had a chance to use one of these small bass producing Bluetooth speakers, then you do have a chance to experience one of the finest in the industry. Of course there are some that come at a lower price, but given its features, you won’t have a reason to complain about the price at all.
After Bose released their fist version of this tiny Bluetooth speaker (Bose SoundLink Mini), there were a lot of complains on some hardware flaws and all these have been addressed in the new Bose SoundLink Mini II. The design and the features remain the same except for a few tweaks here and there. The aluminum is still there and it feels sturdy and well made. You would probably want to use a rubber cover to protect this aluminum shell as it attracts scratches easily.
The Bose SoundLink Mini II is just the right size of a good portable Bluetooth speaker and it comes with a charging dock rather than the usual charging cable although there is still an option for that. Moreover, unlike the original version, the Bose SoundLink Mini II can be charged with a phone or tablet charger. The charging ports are available on the speaker as well as on the dock. This offers versatility and Bose also decided to add a mic which can be useful when you want to get your phone on loudspeaker. In addition to this, you can easily connect an external power bank if you would be using the speaker for long hours.
As you would expect, there are some downsides to the Bose SoundLink Mini II as well. First of all, it lacks the NFC paring feature which could make file sharing easier. However, it allows you to pair two devices simultaneously although you can only use sound from one of the devices. When the Bose SoundLink Mini II is turned on, you get a robotic voice that informs you of the battery level and the paired devices. Bose also did away with the aux button and made the process automatic and also included a 3.5mm audio port for devices that can’t pair via Bluetooth.
The battery life of the Bose SoundLink Mini II is better compared to its predecessor. You can now use the Bluetooth speaker for 10hrs without heavy use. When it comes to the sound quality, the Bose SoundLink Mini II emerges as the best in its class. The cheaper alternatives have nothing on the Bose Mini II.
At the end of the day, you have a choice to make and getting one of the Bose SoundLink Mini II would be a good idea. It beats its competition hands down in terms of sound quality but this comes with a price. If you don’t mind spending extra for the sound quality, then go for it.
