BlackBerry Q10 Review
In the midst of stiff competition from its rivals Apple and other Android smartphones, Blackberry launched the second Blackberry 10 device, the Blackberry Q10. For those who desire to have a QWERTY keyboard in their Smartphone, the Q10 figures as a great option.
The handset is quite similar to other trademark Blackberry models with physical keyboards, rounded corners and a mid-sized square screen, sleek and portable enough to fit in a palm. The dimensions of Q10 are 4.71" x 2.63" x 041" and it weighs light at 4.9 ounces. It has ditched the trackball and instead comes with a touch screen, while the body is crafted out of high grade plastic entirely. The volume toggle buttons are to the right, while the camera and power buttons are on the top. With the contemporary Blackberry 10 operating system, the Q10 offers seamless browsing and transition between applications.
The phone uses the dual core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus processor, with 2GB RAM and 16 GB of additional internal storage capability with a Micro SD card. Up to 64GB external storage using Micro SD card slot can be availed. Q10 features an 8 MP primary camera that clicks great shots with 3264 x 2448 pixels for maximum resolution. LED flash, autofocus face detection, image stabilization and geo-tagging features are also available. TimeShift from Blackberry allows Q10 to create perfect pictures by moving parts of an individual shot forward or backward in time. The rear camera can shoot 1080p HD video at 30 fps, while the 2 MP front camera is able to shoot 720p HD videos. As mentioned earlier, the display is quite small at 3.1 inches as compared to many other Android devices in the market. Nevertheless, the 720x720 pixel resolution of the SuperAMOLED capacitive touch screen makes it easy to view even in direct sunlight.
One of the major highlights of Blackberry Q10 is the Blackberry 10 operating system, which is completely different from the previous versions of OS. Blackberry has made huge efforts in this regard and borrowed good ideas from both iOS and Android. It focuses on Blackberry Hub for getting alerts for mails, messages, BBM and social networking platforms like Twitter and Facebook. So, though the OS offers a lot in terms of functionality, it still has a few snags which keep the Q10 from emerging as an all-round winner.
Q10 features a 2100 mAh battery with up to 10 hour life on the 2G model and 13 hour 30 minute talk time on 3G model. For connectivity, BlueTooth 4.0, microHDMI, microUSB and NFC technology is provided. It also supports 4G/LTE specification. All in all, the Blackberry Q10 is a mixed bag, with high end hardware and keyboard, but lagging behind on the software front. For those who want a business phone with fast typing and do not mind a slightly smaller screen, this phone is the right choice.
