ASUS ZenWatch WI500Q Review
The ASUS ZenWatch WI500Q has a lot to offer in terms of design, performance and features. It’s a cool android wear that you should consider if budget is one of your concerns. After the last few releases from LG and Moto came all round, Asus decided to try out a square one and they have proved that even square smartwatches can still be sleek.
The first thing you would be looking for in a smartwatch is obviously the look. It’s a wearable and so it should be able to stand out even without considering its features. Well, Asus did a good job here. Of course it won’t get a lot of praise from the fashionistas but it will work really well for the regular guy.
When it comes to features, there is nothing out of the ordinary in the ASUS ZenWatch WI500Q.It comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM which is typically what the competition is offering. In this regard, Asus had to try and come up with something that will make it stand out. They did well with the design and the battery life. It’s a stylish watch build of steel with a silver finish which places it a few steps ahead of Samsung and LG in terms of aesthetic appeal. It also has bronze plating which doubles as a heart rate sensor.
On the downside, the smartwatch is a bit large and uncomfortable. However this won’t be an issue if you have larger arms. Moreover, you have to squeeze the sides of the smartwatch to get readings unlike the Moto 360 that gives you automatic readings. Asus also opted for the clasp mechanism instead of the traditional buckle on the strap. Moreover, the choice of color is limited and this won’t go well with fashionistas. Finally, the watch is only water resistant and this means that it will only save you in case of rain water but you won’t be going to the pool with it.
The ASUS ZenWatch WI500Q comes with an AMOLED panel that’s protected by Gorilla Glass 3 which is an excellent eye candy. Although the panel is flat, a 2.5D glass placed over it makes it look a bit curved. The viewing angels are excellent and the screen is bright enough to get readings outdoors. It will have some light reflections, but you could avoid it by moving it away from direct sunlight.
Apart from the usual android interface, ASUS added a few features that you can use to customize the watch faces. Moreover, you can download other apps such as the fitness tracker and remote camera for your smartphone.
The ASUS ZenWatch WI500Q is a good buy for anyone looking to try out a square smartwatch. It won’t break any records but it will get the work done. It doesn’t do more than its competition but at least it offers a few extra features and a good design. Smartwatch need to be eye candy even before factoring in the performance or features and this time round ASUS got this one right.
