The 3-Minute ASUS ZenBook UX330UA Review

    Great for a busy day

    By Melanie Hawthorne | October 12, 2017

    ASUS ZenBook UX330UA Front

    The Specifics:

    Features & Design: 3.5/5 ● Performance: 3.5/5 ● Value: 4/5

    The Best:

The best thing about the ASUS ZenBook UX330UA is its great display. The sharp, bright colours really make watching videos enjoyable while its thin profile makes it easy to carry around with you. It will give you solid performance and battery life to boot.

    The Bugs

The biggest problem with the ZenBook UX330UA is, surprisingly, the touchpad. It isn’t very accurate and the look and feel of it isn’t great either. Another drawback is the USB-C ports. They are data-transfer only ports so you won’t be able to charge your phone or anything else with them.

    Is it for you?

With decent battery life and a great display, the ZenBook UX330UA is still worth a look. The affordable price means that this high-spec Ultrabook can be a good addition if you spend a lot of time watching videos or want a well-performing but portable laptop. It can handle video editing and is able to run multiple applications at once. Perfect if you need to tackle lots of different things.

This model comes with the option of an i5 and i7 processor and a large amount of RAM (8GB). It is great for everyday use, just don’t expect to do much gaming on it. The laptop really isn’t designed with that in mind.

“Good audio quality and a surprisingly solid graphics card were other nice finds.”

    Meet the ASUS ZenBook UX330UA

The ASUS ZenBook UX330UA makes a strong impression in the competitive Ultrabook arena. Following up on last year’s well-received ZenBook UX305UA, this laptop has some big shoes to fill. The good news is that it doesn’t disappoint. Clearly, ASUS has put a lot of thought into the design of this computer. It’s sleek, well-built, and just generally looks good. That’s before mentioning how incredibly light it is. Aside from the touchpad, everything on this machine is solidly put together.

    What we like

Having a good screen really makes a difference when you use your laptop every day. The ASUS ZenBook UX330UA has a fantastic screen with good resolution and, most importantly, bright, clear colours. It really makes this laptop a joy to use. The screen also makes the laptop great for video editing, especially when you factor in the fantastic sound quality from the speakers.

Its performance is what you’d expect from a machine with this type of hardware. It’s more than capable of handling all your day-to-day tasks like browsing Facebook and typing up docs in Word. Another advantage is that it comes at an affordable price. While it isn’t going to set any records for battery life, it does offer over 6 hours of work time. That means you can get through most of a workday or day of classes on a single charge. The keyboard is also very well made with nice design and sturdy feel.

    What we don’t like

Unfortunately, the touchpad on the ASUS ZenBook UX330UA really isn’t up to scratch. Its lack of accuracy makes it frustrating to use and it suffers from some poor choices in materials. It’s fine if you want to plug in a mouse, but using one on the go can be annoying.

The USB-C ports don’t charge. There isn’t a nice way to put it. We’re not sure whether this was a choice that was made to increase the battery life and performance or just something that was overlooked. Either way, it’s unusual and a pretty big drawback for those hoping to charge their phone or tablet.

While this laptop runs cool, there have been reports that the fan can be fairly loud and that it seems to work at full blast most of the time.

    ASUS ZenBook UX330UA Keyboard

    Should you buy it?

The ASUS ZenBook UX330UA is a great Ultrabook for its price. While there are a few drawbacks, the benefits still outweigh them. ASUS has brought a good work or day-to-day laptop to the table. If you are looking for a lightweight, highly portable machine that can handle a long day of work or a movie marathon, the ASUS ZenBook UX330UA is a good choice. Just don't expect to game on it.
