What are the ports and interface ?
The ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q has a limited range of connectivity options because G-sync is in use here. However, there have been improvements and apart from one DisplayPort interface, you also get one DP 1.2a and one HDMI 1.4 input. The digital interfaces are HDCP certified for encrypted content. The ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q has two USB 3.0 ports, which are located near the video inputs and can be difficult to access sometimes.
What is the overall performance ?
The overall performance ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q is fantastic. Thanks to the 165Hz refresh rate, the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q response time is more than adequate and there is no game that you cannot enjoy on this monitor. The video is amazingly clear and the audio output is more than sufficient with headphones and speakers. Switching between monitors during gaming is a cakewalk and this is again thanks to the fast response time of this monitor.
What is the sound quality ?
The ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q has two speakers, each with 2 watts of power, and the speakers are located at the back of the monitor. The purpose of the speakers is bare-minimum and it should only be used when you have lost your headphones or speakers, and still want to enjoy the sounds of the games. The audio is reasonably but there is some distortion at higher bass. If you place the monitor against a wall, the sound does not travel too well.
What are the modes available ?
ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q makes the ULMB feature accessible from the image section of the OSD menu. But accessibility is only possible in 85, 100 and 120Hz modes. Not not in 144Hz mode or any other overclocked refresh rate. Please note that the ULMB does not work in G-sync. With ULMB enabled, you also get the "ULMB Pulse Width" option for you to control the strobe length and adjust this between 100 and 10. At lower setting, the screen becomes progressively darker while you reduce the "on" period of the strobe.
Conclusion: Should I buy it ?
In terms of gaming performance, the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q is a monster. The 144Hz refresh rate is great but even greater is the 165Hz refresh rate at QHD. CS: GO gamers will surely fall in love with this monitor. Get the right GPU power for this monitor and gaming will be out of the world for you.
