Asus have been in the PC gaming and peripheral market for a very long time, and that experience has clearly been transferred to their GTX 1060 gaming card. It features 3GB 192-Bit of GDDR5 VRAM, Overclocking on the fly, 1152 Cuda Cores, and PCI Express 3.0 support.
Trying to get your hands on a decent gaming graphics card in recent years has been no easy task, thanks in large part to the crypto currency gold rush that has turned non gamers into GPU hoarders. This card only has a few slight issues, and all of which are understandable considering the price bracket that it finds itself in.
Is it for you?
If you are thinking of delving into the gaming sphere of VR, then this is a decent entry level card that will get you in the door, don’t expect massive frame rates, however. For standard desktop gaming, this is a great mid-levelled card that should run most games on medium to high settings with few problems.

The 2 fanned (Duel) system does a good job of keeping this card cool, although you will notice a slightly louder than normal operating volume when your games start demanding higher performance from the card. Tweaking the performance has never been easier, thanks to the GPU Tweak II software that ships with this unit, and the Auto-Extreme technology that ensures that all components on the card are heat tolerant, meaning that the card should last for the long term.
What we like
Visually, this is a good looking card, with its dual fans and white heat shroud. There are plenty of video out ports, with 2 x HDMI ‘VR-Ready’, 2 x Display Port and 1 x DVI port all present on the back of this card.
Gaming performance is exactly what you would expect from a GTX 1060 with 3GB of GDDR 5 VRAM, and the overall gaming experience is a pleasant one for the money.
This is a good mid-ranged card with plenty of value add features such as auto overclock and some premium components to ensure that the card lasts for a long time under normal gaming conditions.
What we don’t like
Unfortunately the SLI tab has been removed from this unit, meaning that if you wanted to run a dual video card setup then you would not be able to run a pair of cards with an SLI bridge.
The 3GB of VRAM is also a little on the low end of graphics cards by today’s standards, especially where large textures and graphical effects are in abundance.
Should you buy it?
If you have a gaming rig that is in need of a graphical upgrade, then this is probably a great choice for you. If you are planning on running VR then this will also be a good choice, however it must be noted that VR is very demanding on graphics cards, so don’t expect flagship performance from this mid-level card. The added overclocking features and solid Asus quality make this a good option for gamers that are looking for some value in their next graphics card purchase.
