Apple has come back with a much improved Apple Watch, and it looks like it is nearly at the stage we Apple fans can all agree that it is perfect. Almost. The screen is just as bright as the Apple Watch 3, shining a respectable 1000 nits of light, the screen is larger, and the interface has had a redesign.
The biggest problem for most aspirant Apple Watch owners is the seemingly prohibitive price tag that these beautiful devices come with. While this is definitely a premium product, the pricing makes it out of reach for most Apple fans.
Is it for you?
Apple has put a lot of thought and effort into making this a much better sporting and fitness watch, and it really shows. The sensor is much improved, and the software now allows users to really dial in on their fitness levels and readings. Some users have reported that the device has even detected certain medical conditions that they didn’t know they had, thanks to Apple’s ECG app.
Meet the Apple Watch Series 4
As with most of Apples technology iterations, the Apple Watch Series 4 is slimmer and more powerful than the devices that came before it. Watch OS 5 does a great job of making it easier than ever to navigate around this watch. All of the apps such as GPS and health monitors are right there, and are really easy to access.
What we like
Walkie-Talkie mode is another great feature that sets this device apart from other smart watches, as finding a friend in a crowd is much easier with direct access to each other with short voice notes. And who doesn’t want to talk into a watch?
The device is not a complete redesign or anything, so if you are already familiar with Apple Watches then you may find the lack of dramatic redesigns a touch on the boring side. The bigger screen and improved navigation controls are a plus though, so if you are thinking of an upgrade you may or may not enjoy this newer version.
The main group that this device targets are people that already have an iPhone and wish to build upon the experience by adding a fitness capability to their bag of tricks. There are cheaper devices out there, but most people that use Apple products prefer to stay within that single ecosystem.
What we don’t like
Perhaps the biggest drawbacks of this particular model is the battery life. You will get around two days of use from the device before it needs recharging, which may or may not be an issue for you, depending on how often you will need to use it during the week.
You might be one of those people that only uses it for working out, preferring a more traditional timepiece for your other daily activities, in which case you might not mind the limited battery life on this watch.
Should you buy it?
If you already own an iPhone, but wish to get started on the health and fitness side of things, then yes this is definitely a watch that is worth buying. For those that are new to Apple and their systems, then you might want to look elsewhere before taking the plunge.
