Apple IPhone 7 Plus 32GB Review
Putting rest to all the rumors and numerous leaks surrounding its release, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have been released. Today we’ll take a look at the elder sibling of the new duo of iPhones, the iPhone 7 Plus. It has some welcome additions compared to the previous iPhone models, but there is not much of a change when it comes to the overall design. The major selling point of the 7 Plus is obviously the dual-camera setup at the rear, which is a first for the Cupertino based company.
Still the same design, still in demand
The iPhone 7 Plus retains the core design of the previous generation of iPhones. The changes come in the form of antenna lines that have been moved over to the top and bottom from the rear. This gives the phone a nice clean rear panel. There is also the new camera module and the rest of the stuff remains pretty much the same.
Apple A10, Beast of a Chipset
The Snapdragon 820 was one of the most successful chipsets of 2016. It was featured on almost all of the flagships and Apple had to bring about a new standard. And they sure brought it in style! Smacking all the competitors out of the ball park, Apple’s new A10 chipset has brought about a revolution in performance.
The Snapdragon 820, Exynos 8890, Kirin 955 and MediaTek Helio X20 don’t even come close to the Apple A10 in terms of single-core performance. When it comes to multi-core performance, the Apple A10 delivers yet again and is comparable to the Snapdragon 820.
Unlike the iPhone 6S Plus, the new model comes with a massive 3 gigs of RAM. Apple’s refined OS works really well even with 1GB of RAM, in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, so there’s no need to worry about performance in the iPhone 7 Plus.
Same display, a bit brighter
The 5.5-inch display didn’t get a bump in resolution. It is still at 1080x1920 pixels and is an LED-backlit IPS LCD display. The brightness is 25% more on the new iPhone and is a tad richer compared to the iPhone 6S. Even though other flagships come with a QHD resolution, Apple has decided to stay put with Full HD. This is a bit of a disappointment considering the hefty price tag that the phone comes at.
Not one, but two amazing cameras!
The new phone has brought in a brand new camera module. The dual-camera setup was popularized by the Huawei P9. It still remains as one of the best smartphone cameras in the market, for now. The camera on the new iPhone is in a different league altogether. Apple teased us with a few real-life shots taken with the dual-camera, and it is mesmerizing.

DxOMark Mobile has rated the iPhone 7’s camera as the third best smartphone camera that they’ve tested. They haven’t even got to the dual-camera, so that probably means that the dual-camera setup on the 7 Plus is the best in the market right now.
The front camera has also received a bump from 5MP to 7MP and you will never be craving for better selfies. The f2.2 camera at the front can also capture full HD videos as well as slow-mo videos at 240fps.
Goodbye to 16GB memory
This is one of the most sought after changes in the new iPhone. Earlier, people used to complain about the lack of storage on their iPhones. Even after paying big bucks, they only get 16GB of storage. More storage meant paying a lot more. This time around, Apple has ditched the 16GB version for a 32GB variant as the base model. Those who want even more storage can get the 128GB variant, as they’ve ditched the 64GB variant too.
iOS 10 and Two New Finishes
A lot of people wanted the new iPhone in black. Apple went ahead and created two new finishes for the new iPhones. No, they are not two colors, but two finishes of the same color. One is glossy black, which is dubbed as Jet Black and the other is simply black, which offers a matte finish.
iOS 10 on the new iPhone is as good as it can get. Not even a single lag will be experienced and the iPhone will come out on top no matter what you throw at it. The quad-core processor and six-core graphics processing unit along with the optimized UI make it buttery smooth.
IP67 Water Resistant and Stereo Speakers
The new iPhones are IP67 rated meaning that they are totally resistant to dust and can survive the occasional drop in water. Water damage is not covered under warranty, though. The iPhone 7 Plus also has stereo speakers. But one weird thing about this is that one of the speakers is facing down, while the other one is facing outwards.
This placement is up for questioning as it might not give the user the exact experience that they would desire. Nonetheless, the speakers are quite loud and offer great quality.
The Big Negative of the iPhone 7 Plus, No Headphone Jack!
This might be the biggest mistake that Apple has made. It was a huge point of debate before the release of the phone and it still remains one of the hottest topics after the release too. The lack of a headphone jack means that users will have to take extra care of their earpods that come with a lightning connector or keep the 3.5mm to lightning connector with them at all times. Apple has provided with both of these along with the iPhone. Losing it can set you back by quite a bit and not everyone will be used to having an adapter dangling down their iPhone.
Capacitive Home Button
This is another change that has received some criticism. There is no home button on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The new phones come with a capacitive key that doubles up as a fingerprint scanner as well. Even though there are setting to tweak how hard you can press, it will need some getting used to. But it should also be kept in mind that there won’t be any mechanical faults relating to the button anymore.
The iPhone 7 Plus is one of the best smartphones out there, no doubt. Lack of a headphone jack, addition of a capacitive home button and the hefty price tag will not act against this one as the positives outweigh the negatives. It is a must buy for anyone not worried about the price, but care about performance, photography, and usability in a phone.
