Apple IPad Mini With Retina 16GB WiFi Review
The new 16GB Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display represents everything Apple stands for but in a much more portable size. Actually, this new Apple iPad Mini is like the normal Apple iPad Air, just smaller. Although the price has definitely increased since the previous generation of Apple iPad's, the few extra dollars are worth your spending. With a sleek design and optimal feature display, the Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display is sure to impress.
The new 16GB Apple iPad Mini (with retina display) still features the same design as its ancestor regardless of the smaller size. With aluminum body and two different design options (black with gray or silver with white), the Apple iPad Mini looks sleek and high-end. The power button is located on the top (like an iPod) and the lock button and volume rocker are located on the right side. With dimension of 7.9x5.3x0.29 inches, the Apple iPad mini is easily stored and portable. However, although the difference is small, the new Apple iPad Mini (with Retina display) is heavier than the previous version. Weighing in at 11.7 ounces, it is still very light, though. The device does come with a camera located on the back of the iPad Mini and the dual speakers for facetime calls are located on the bottom of the device.
The Retina display that has been added to the 16GB Apple iPad Mini really makes all the difference as compared to the previous generation. With 2048x1536 resolution, images, apps, videos and games are stunningly crisp and clear. Anything from small fonts on websites to landscape pictures look nearly perfect. Unfortunately, the color on the new Apple iPad Mini is a bit duller than on other iPad generations. Although the difference is slight, it is still noticeable. In particularly, bold reds and blues seemed to be faded on the iPad Mini as compared to the iPad Air. The iPad Mini's registered Retina brightness was 390 lux, which is very good, but not the best out there either.
The iPad Mini with Retina display uses the common, iOS7 software that is used in most Apple devices. Apple has updated this software though and the newest feature of this software is the Control Center. The Control Center is used for editing your settings such as brightness or specific audio levels. A unique feature to the new Apple iPad air is the ability to multitask quickly and easily. All it takes is a quick double press of the home button and you can see all of your open applications and tasks currently in use. The iPad Mini with Retina display does come with Wi-Fi for those who were concerned. With an 802.11n router, the iPad Mini averaged 38.9Mbps downloads as well as 61.6Mbps uploads and a rapid loading time.
With a 23.8-watt battery, the tablet will last users a minimum of 10 hours before needing to be recharged.
