   The Western Digital Caviar Green SATA III is a hard drive that decreases power consumption by 40%. It is environment-friendly due to its design which is lead-free and halogen-free materials. It uses less endangered earth materials and has no controversial elements.
   
   Installation of the Caviar Green is painless. However, you need to have screws because it doesn’t come with the necessary screws to mount it at your desired place. The SATA and the power cables are missing, too. There is no instructions manual in the package. This poses a problem especially to the less technical guys who would surely be less threatened with the availability of easy-to-follow guide book with vital information. Unfortunately, there is none. Only a letter with the website address is in the package together with the hard drive. Going to the website, you can get a free download of the cloning software for your old hard drive.
   
   The access speeds are satisfactory for storage purpose or as a back-up drive; unfortunately, this one is not highly recommendable for games and desktops. This drive is quiet and fast equipped with large storage capacity.
   
   One drawback is in the software tools. Its functionality is not 100% reliable if you use it for copying your old Western Digital drive. Others complained about its failure to perform smoothly on this area. While there are some who are luckier and had no similar problem. There were some who tried to solve this issue successfully by simply downloading a free hard drive cloning solution from the web instead of waiting for the technical assistance coming from the Western Digital.
   
   There were bug problems before that have been effectively dealt with already for those who use the Windows 7. No need to worry about this issue. Although the Caviar Black seems to work better than the Caviar Green, the latter excels in storing photos and videos. It is advisable to make use of it in a Network-attached storage (NAS) for more space but with less speed requirement.
   
   This desktop hard drive doesn’t get too hot because it is power-saving by 40%. Start-up takes time but after this everything seems fast. On the other hand, there are some issues on durability, there are some complaints about its very short life. Some reported hard drive deaths within 3 to 6 months. Some have issues about DOA (dead on arrival). Others failed after two years as a secondary drive. For defects, the hard drive comes with a warranty. Due to some reports of files getting lost after using this hard drive, it is recommended to have a backup copy first before attempting to use it on your computer. Who can tell, you might have gotten the hard drive from the bad batch.
   
   All in all, the durability of the Western Digital Caviar Green SATA III is not 100% guaranteed. Although many had a nice experience with it, others were not as lucky. Its storage is huge but it is not that fast. It saves power and it is environment- friendly, but most important of all is it should be user-friendly. Think twice before you decide on buying this hard drive. If you are highly technical who can fix things yourself, this might be for you. Hope you get one from the good batch.
