HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw Review

  • 4.0 / 5
    • The good:
Wireless Network Support, High Quality Text, Easy Setup
    • The bad:
NoFax, Scanner Or Copier, No Duplex, Slow
The HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw is a color laser printer that will work well in a home or office environment. This device is best for printing documents, although it can be used for “reasonable-quality” photos. Note that there are no fax, scanner or copier capabilities in this machine. It allows you to automatically optimize color for realistic images and crisp text. The 2-line, 16-character color display of this printer allows you to keep track of jobs. The HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw is equipped with templates for business materials, so that you can create a project quickly. Equipped with built-in Ethernet and wireless 802.11b/g/n networking, you can share printing with your colleagues this innovative laser printer lets you send photos, documents and more from any mobile device directly to your printer with HP ePrint. With the HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw, you can start and finish your prints jobs faster with Instant-on Technology, which reduces energy use up to 50% and you can also print only the web content you need, neatly and accurately, with HP Smart Web Printing. The HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw is big, with a 15.7 by 17.8 inch footprint that will take up a little more space on a desktop than you might like. But it only 10 inches high, so at least you won't feel like it towers over you. On the other hand, it is heavy for the size, at 40 pounds, which is more than some people might feel comfortable lifting and moving by themselves. Despite the extra size and weight (and price), the HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw doesn't deliver all that much. In particular, its paper handling is almost as limited. It has only a 150 sheet input tray, with no automatic duplexing and no options available. It adds a one-sheet manual feed slot, so you can print on a different paper stock without having to swap out the paper in the main tray, but that's almost the only advantage it offers. Print speed isn't comparable to competition models. Black & white speed is pretty good at 13 ppm. There is no draft mode, which is a drawback when it comes to economising on ink. Print quality is excellent. The characters are sharp and legible and the shaded areas perfectly reproduced on colour prints, though slightly less precise on the black & whites. Although lasers aren't designed for photo prints, quality is well above average for this type of printer. Of course, in spite of this, the results aren't comparable to what you get with a good inkjet on photo paper. Overall, the HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw works well for a reasonable cost per page. It can serve well enough as a personal printer or shared printer in a micro office.
