   The Garmin Nuvi 50LM is an automotive GPS unit from Garmin that offers a step-up from the company's standard Nuvi 50 model. Available with US-only and full North American (US & Canada) map data.
   
   With the free lifetime map updates feature of the Garmin Nuvi 50LM you will always have the most up-to-date maps, POIs and navigation information available. Map updates are available for download up to 4 times a year with no subscription or update fees and no expiration dates so no worries about changes in roads and new POIs.
   
   As in the case of the other models in the Essential Series, the Garmin Nuvi 50LM is a handheld device as well, so it can be used in other environments as well. For these contexts a great number of extra maps can be uploaded
   
   The Garmin Nuvi 50LM also features touchscreen with intuitive interface. Only two options are available: “Where to go?” and “View Map.” This is what basic navigation is all about.
   
   Getting the address is very easy: You simply touch the screen and look up the address.
   
   The instructions are easy to follow and you will never feel the need to ignore the navigation. As a matter of fact, it won’t take you long to realize that the Garmin Nuvi 50LM will get you to your destination. Some of the early reviews from customer reviews attest to this
   
   And Lane Assist gives views of upcoming junctions to guide the driver to the correct fast-approaching exit or turn, so an unfamiliar stretch of road is simple to navigate.
   The two features that most customers highly favoured were the speed limit prominently displayed on the screen and the invaluable lane guidance system, which goes into split-screen mode and shows upcoming interstate signage. In all, these most invaluable features of the Garmin Nuvi 50LM allowed drivers to navigate new or unfamiliar territory, both on highway and in city, with ease and speed.
   
   Complaints were minor, but there were a few notable ones. The Garmin Nuvi 50LM, as long-time customers noted, no longer says "recalculating route" when the driver deviates or changes course, and some found this quiet recalculation to be disconcerting. In addition, several customers had experiences where Garmin was not there, as the system allowed them to go half a mile and more out of their way before rebooting. However, even the negative reviewers praised the display screen, the volume and the overall accuracy of the day to day experience.
   
   All in all, the Garmin Nuvi 50LM is a great buy with easy to navigate menus, easy to view maps, and a well-executed, durable design. It is a well-balanced unit with enough whistles to make the consumer happy without having to up the price tag.
