    • The good:
Large Screen, Long Battery Life, Larger Memory Size
    • The bad:
Heavy, Need To Buy Additional Features
The Garmin Montana 650t is a handheld GPS that is a perfect companion for a ton of outdoor activities, and some of these activities include biking, hunting, boating, and even road trips. The GPS can use two types of battery sources, lithium ion battery pack or three AA batteries. It will last up to 16 hours with the lithium ion while up to 22 hours with the AA batteries. The Garmin Montana 650t features a vast, 4", sunlight-readable touchscreen display that offers crystal-clear, enhanced colors and displays high-resolution images. With its easy-to-use interface you’ll spend more time enjoying the outdoors and less time searching for information. Both durable and waterproof, the device is built to withstand the elements. Bumps, dust, dirt, humidity and water are no match for this rugged navi. It also features TOPO U.S. 100K maps, supports multiple mapping options like BirdsEye Satellite Imagery. Montana has key features for the outdoors such as a 3-axis tilt-compensated compass and barometric altimeter. Buy the auto mount and a City Navigator NT map, and it'll give you spoken turn-by-turn driving directions The GPS can hold up to 4000 waypoints, locations, and favorites, and it can add 200 routes to it, so that you can map out your routes, save them, and share them. The Montana 650t has a camera attached to it with 5-mega pixel and autofocus, so that you can take pictures and save them when you are out on the trail. Another feature that distinguishes the Montana 650t from other Montana models is the memory size and capacity which is 3.5 GB. The feature list is impressive: it’s waterproof and shockproof (rated to IPX7); there’s compatibility with Garmin’s wireless heart-rate chest belts, and ANT+ devices; there are marine functions for sailors and anglers, and you can even employ it as a driving satnav. Shove it into the optional mount and it will issue turn-by-turn instructions. The prevailing issue with the Montana is that it is simply too big for hiking. The Montana is just a bit too big to fit in standard compact camera cases, and while it does fit in a pants pocket, the weight would be too much for comfort. Also, the topographic maps do not come with the system, it has to be purchased separately and added to it. This is a problem because people do not like paying for a product and then having to pay more for a feature that needs to be added to it. Overall, the Garmin Montana 650t fulfills its promise as a true, rugged and durable, multi-purpose GPS. It should appeal to people with active lifestyles, as well as those that aspire to have one.
