Canon PowerShot SX50 HS Review
The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS 12.1 MP is a Digital Camera which is claimed to be the world’s first 50X Wide-Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom. Auto focusing has an impressive speed for a point and shoot. However, with the use of the manual focus, it lags with the use of the back dial.
This camera never stops pleasing every one. For close-ups like insects and other small animals, images are just amazing up to 1200mm. But beyond that length, images look just fine but not that good. Compared to its predecessors, this SX50 is the fastest when it comes to autofocusing. The sharpness and the details are spectacular with crisp details at every range. It is surprising to see the results of this camera which seems to be unbeatable considering its comfortability to handle and price as compared to a very expensive DSLR.
For low light, noise is hard to find. Unfortunately, this camera finds difficult to focus on dark objects and in places with less light. Macro can shoot up to a distance of ten feet with very nice colors, details and sharpness. It doesn’t need a tripod for the close-ups. The use of the tripod helps a lot when doing the long distance shots. The manual mode of the SX50 definitely beats the SX30 and SX40. There is no panoramic mode. Zoom Vivid is a lot better than the Natural. Sometimes, there are tolerable distortions but less than that of other similar cameras on the market these days.
One of the complaints is that those important cables like the USB and the video are nowhere to be found. It also doesn’t come with a cover. This is somewhat annoying to most users, since you couldn’t just use the camera right out of the box without those important cables. There is a need to spend some more money for those vital accessories.
This camera is considered ideal for beginners to middle level photographers; certainly not for advanced photographers because of the simplicity of the functions available. However, its features are comparable with the DSLRs. Even with the use of the Auto mode, images are great with no sweat at all. On the other hand, there is no filter mount and there is no way to use the different filters available on the market like the UV and the Polarizing filters. These filters protect the camera and dramatize its images. When using the Aperture mode, there is difficulty in getting a blurry background at f/4.5 and there is no aperture lower than the f/8.
This camera is light and easy to carry around. It can be held comfortably and the controls are easy to manage. It looks good and durable. The exterior seems solid and manly. It is a very nice alternative if you don’t like carrying a huge and heavy bag with the big camera and weighty lenses. Moreover, the battery life is not less than four hours and could take a thousand shots before the need to recharge.
Overall, this Canon PowerShot SX50 HS 12.1 MP is an admirable camera that has comparable features with the DSLRs. It is recommendable and a good value for money.
